Crimes Nearby Part I: Car Stolen, DWI, Man Busted for Robbing Restaurant

Recent criminal activity reported for Bellmore, Merrick, Levittown and East Meadow.

The following information is taken directly from the Nassau County Police Department's incident reports. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime.


  • Sometime between Aug. 24-31, an air conditioner was stolen from the side of a home on Shore Road.
  • Sometime between Aug. 31 at 11:30 p.m. and Sept. 1 at 8 a.m., an iPod was stolen from a vehicle on Martin Avenue, and the trunk was found ajar.
  • On Aug. 26, between 7:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., a bike was stolen from the rack at the Bellmore LIRR Station.
  • On Aug. 30, between 8:10 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., another bike was stolen from the Bellmore LIRR Station. This one was chained to a metal railing before it was swiped.


  • A Great Neck man has been arrested for allegedly stealing money out of a cash register at a Merrick restaurant, Nassau County police said on Monday. Click here for more.
  • On Sept. 1, between 9:30 a.m. and 10:35 a.m., a window of a vehicle was broken at the Merrick Avenue and Sunrise Highway intersection.
  • On Sept. 1, at 4:58 a.m., Rashid Saleem, 36, of Jamaica was arrested at the Sunrise Highway and Wynsum Avenue intersection and charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated and four violations of the vehicle and traffic law.
  • On Aug. 2, at 1:55 a.m., Henry Maysonet, 35, of Freeport, was arrested on Sunrise Highway and charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated and three violations of the vehicle and traffic law.
  • Sometime between 10 p.m. on Aug. 25 and 8 a.m. on Aug. 26, items were stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Gildersleeve Street.
  • On Sept. 2, between 10 a.m. and 1:25 p.m., a cell phone was stolen from a backpack at Calhoun High School.


  • Sometime between 8 p.m. on Aug. 29 and 7 a.m. on Aug. 30, a window was broken on a vehicle, which was parked on Chapel Lane.
  • On Sept. 3, at 2 p.m., a backpack was stolen from a car parked on Bluebell Lane in Levittown.
  • Sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 3, Century 21 was broken into, and an iPod and keys were stolen.
  • On Sept. 3, between 12:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., cash was stolen from a home on Shelter Lane.
  • Sometime on Aug. 29, cash credit cards and a driver’s license were stolen from a locker at L.A. Fitness.
  • Sometime between midnight on Aug. 31 and 1 a.m. on Sept. 1, a 2000 Chevy Cavalier was stolen off of Wolcott Road.
  • Sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 1:20 p.m. on Sept. 3, a 2008 Acura was stolen from the Century 21 parking lot.

East Meadow

  • On Aug. 26, between 1 p.m. and 1:10 p.m., a handbag was removed from a vehicle parked in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot on Hempstead Turnpike.
  • Sometime between 9 a.m. on Sept. 6 and 5 p.m. on Sept. 7, a bike was stolen from a backyard shed on Lenox Avenue.
  • On Aug. 30, between 5:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., a front window was damaged by a BB Gun on Roosevelt Avenue.
