Fire Breaks out at Farmingdale High School Friday Night

School will be in session Monday, the district said.

No one was injured but there is significant damage from a fire that broke at late Friday night, Farmingdale fire officials said.

The fire started in the computer lab server room sounding the smoke alarm at 9:18 p.m., according to firefighter Mike Dauth.

"It was electrical in nature and caused considerable damage to most of the computer equipment," he said.

Dauth said the only individuals in the building at the time were the custodians and that the cause of the fire is being investigated by the Nassau County Fire Marshall's office, but that it was probably the result of a fan motor in the server room.

The fire was contained in the computer server room and did not spread elsewhere.

The Farmingdale School District used the district email notification system Saturday morning to tell parents that school will be in session on Monday. However, Dauth said computer service throughout the building may be down from the damage.

The school is located in the South Farmingdale Fire District, but SFFD Chief Martin and his crew had aid from the Village of Farmingdale Fire Department and the North Massapequa Fire Department.
