Bethpage, Plainview Firefighters Stop Brush Fire in Park

Firefighters quickly put down a brush fire in the park just off Route 135.

Firefighters from Bethpage and Plainview quickly put out a smoky brush fire in Bethpage State Park this afternoon, firefighters said.

Bethpage Firefighters responded to the call shortly after noon and requested assistance from neighboring companies. Plainview and Syosset both sent brush trucks to the scene, just off the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway at Plainview Road, authorities said.

Police aviation was requested to assist firefighters in determining the exact location of the fire.

The fire was located, contained and put down by 1 p.m., firefighters said. Units were returning from the scene.

Plainview's brush truck is known as a BRAT, or "Brush Rapid Attack Truck," which is designed to roll into rough terrain and hose down hot spots with its mini pumper. The truck itself carries about 500 gallons of water.
