Leandra's Law Arrest Made on Southern State Parkway

Central Islip man faces DWI with teen in car; arrest made by State Police from Farmingdale's Troop L.

A Central Islip man was arrested on the Southern State Parkway driving drunk with a child in the back seat, state police said.

A trooper from the Farmingdale Troop L barracks spotted Joseph Kollie, 64, driving erratically near the Hicksville Road exit in North Massapequa at 11:13 p.m. Saturday.

Kollie's gold Honda Accord was stopped and the driver failed sobriety tests, according to state police. The trooper also saw a minor in the back seat of the car, who is a member of Kollie's family.

A breath test produced a .11 percent blood alcohol content which is above the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

Kollie was charged with aggravated DWI under Leandra's law, which makes it a felony to drive drunk with a child under 15.

He was also charged with endangering the welfare of a minor.

The teen was released to another family member.
