Man Charged with Possession of Stolen Cemetery Vases

The vases were stolen from Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale over the past several months, police said.

Suffolk County Police arrested a West Babylon man and charged him with possessing 22 bronze cemetery vases that were stolen from Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale during the past several months.

According to police, First Precinct Community Oriented Police Enforcement Officer Joseph Russo gave information to First Squad detectives, who responded to 426 York Place in West Babylon on Feb. 18, located several of the stolen vases and arrested resident Shaun Dosch. 

Detectives said they believe Dosch had the intention of melting down the vases to sell for the scrap value of the metallic content. The estimated value of the property exceeds $7,000, according to police.

Dosch, 26, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree. He is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this case to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
