Man Due in Court in West Hempstead Crash

Farmingdale resident accused of fleeing police.

A Farmingdale man arrested earlier this month after a police chase is due in court Thursday.

Nassau County police said Daniel F. Aviles was one of three men arrested after he was spotted recklessly operating a Ford SUV in West Hempstead.

According to police, Aviles and his passengers were screaming out of the windows, swerving in the roadway and tailgating a car in front of them.

After disobeying an order to pull over, Aviles continued at a high rate of speed but lost control of the SUV, causing the vehicle to overturn and strike a tree, police said.

He and his passengers are also accused of setting off fireworks in mailboxes in Elmont.

Aviles is charged with criminal mischief, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, unlawful fleeing of a police officer in the third degree, reckless driving, DWI, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operator vehicle and multiple vehicle traffic law violations.

He is scheduled to appear in First District Court.

Thank God he didn't hurt/kill anyone. What a jack%$$. What on earth possessed him and his friends to act like idiots? Too bad he can't be charged on what COULD have happened - ie manslaughter?

Hate to sound like an old woman, but when it was Von Leeson's it was always a joy to be there. AllRead More the staff had been there for years and treated the customers like family. Food was consistently good and they never "ran out" of anything. This place shouldn't be open for business. The poor kid waiting on us last time had to come to me and tell me they had no dessert to have with coffee other than ice cream. We left him a nice tip and I told him to find a job somewhere else; he'd never make any money there. It's a great location. We just need some smart business people to run it!

Sorry wont be going back any time soon, unless I see a new mngment or new owner sign.

. This place is just not good. There is nothing appealing about poor service and absolutely horribleRead More food. It should have stayed closed when it went out of business not long ago. I hope the employees can find another means .
