Man Due in Court in West Hempstead Crash

Farmingdale resident accused of fleeing police.

A Farmingdale man arrested earlier this month after a police chase is due in court Thursday.

Nassau County police said Daniel F. Aviles was one of three men arrested after he was spotted recklessly operating a Ford SUV in West Hempstead.

According to police, Aviles and his passengers were screaming out of the windows, swerving in the roadway and tailgating a car in front of them.

After disobeying an order to pull over, Aviles continued at a high rate of speed but lost control of the SUV, causing the vehicle to overturn and strike a tree, police said.

He and his passengers are also accused of setting off fireworks in mailboxes in Elmont.

Aviles is charged with criminal mischief, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, unlawful fleeing of a police officer in the third degree, reckless driving, DWI, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operator vehicle and multiple vehicle traffic law violations.

He is scheduled to appear in First District Court.
