Man Survives After Hit By Train

The unusual incident took place near Hicksville, impacting Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson lines.

A Wyandanch man survived an unusual incident after he was struck by a freight train by the Hicksville station early Monday.

Gary Williams, 29, was hit by a New York & Atlantic freight train heading east at about 1:20 a.m., Metropolitan Transportation Authority told Newsday. Williams was brought to Nassau University Medical Center, and suffered a broken right leg, broken right elbow and cut to his left ear.  Police secured video of the incident, which showed Williams walking on the platform and then falling onto the tracks, according to Newsday.

The engineer saw Williams on the rails but was unable to stop the train in time without hitting him, Newsday reported.

The incident impacted both the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson lines.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
