West Babylon man charged with two counts of burglary.

A West Babylon man suspected in two South Farmingdale burglaries was arrested on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 5:45 p.m. at the Nassau County Police second precinct.

According to detectives, Jan. 14, Robert David Avena, 19, of 130 Magaw Place, used a brick to break the rear sliding glass door of a home located on Radcliff Avenue. He entered the home and removed a pocketbook and a mans watch. After being unable to sell the items he disposed of them in a nearby pond.

On Jan. 16, he allegedly entered a Heisser Place residence and removed a Hewlett Packard Laptop and an Apple IPOD touch. He then sold the items to a pawn shop. A subsequent investigation by Second Squad detectives led to the recovery of the items and the arrest of Avena who surrendered on Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Second Precinct.

The proceeds from the first burglary were not recovered.

Avena is charged with two counts of Burglary 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Stolen Property 4th degree. He was arraigned on Friday, January 24, 2014 at First District Court in Hempstead.
