Nassau Cop Fires Weapon After Stolen Vehicle Rams Police Car

Cop opens fire Friday night after stolen vehicle drives into police car.

A Nassau County cop fired his gun at a stolen vehicle Friday night in Farmingdale after the vehicle rammed the officer's car, police said. 

No one was injured in the incident which began after a car was stolen from the parking lot of Lotus Garden Chinese Restaurant, located at 345 Conklin Street, police said. 

The officer soon spotted the vehicle in the parking lot of the Spartan Diner, at 1580 Broad Hollow Road in Farmingdale, police said.

As the officer was beginning to exit his police car to conduct an investigation, the stolen car, a 2008 white Toyota Highlander, drove at and collided with the police car's door, which forced the officer to withdraw his service weapon and fire a round at the stolen vehicle, police said. 

The stolen car, which was believed to have been occupied by three to four unknown people, fled the scene on Broad Hollow Road in Suffolk County, police said.

The officer was not injured, but was transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
