Man Fatally Struck by Train in Lindenhurst

A man was struck and killed by a train at the Lindenhurst Long Island Rail Road station Sunday evening, LIRR spokesman Sal Arena told Patch.

The man, who was not authorized to be on the tracks, was hit by a westbound train that left Babylon at 6:28 p.m., Arena said.

MTA Police are currently on the scene. The train that was involved in the accident was taken out of service and its passengers boarded the next westbound train, Arena said.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.

Outside looking in. Somebody died that day, but lets worry about getting home in time to watch American idol! Think before you type.

...Bp, it was Lindenhurst, you easily walk up the stairs onto the platform and can literally just get on the track that way...Duh-What I said

Very sad to read of the loss of life and certainly if this was deliberate and successful attempt to end one ... I hope that there will be no follow up ... responsible non reporting of deliberate attempts keeps this possibility out of the radar of others who may have this in mind. Sadly when this happens another soul is helplessly watching as the train does their deed and can never erase that vision ... My heart does go out to the engineer and all those traveling on this train that now carry this in their heart

Lighten up Steve. Just commenting on what the person before me had to say.

At least we know he "was not authorized to be on the tracks"
