Police Identify Missing Woman as Farmingdale State Secretary

Body found outside of vacant home Thursday is North Massapequa woman missing since Jan. 6.

A woman whose body was found outside a Massapequa home Thursday has been identified as Irene Luetje, of North Massapequa, Nassau County Police said.

But the mystery of how she ended outside the vacant home at 27 Ocean Avenue is still ongoing. Luetje, 60, a secretary at Farmingdale State College, was reported missing Jan. 6, school officials said. 

Cops say there were no apparent signs of trauma on Luetje, who was discovered by a construction crew after they heard water running inside the house.

"We are all very saddened by the news," said Patrick Calabria, Farmingdale state Vice President for Institutional Advancement. "Irene was a lovely person. We were all fond of her. She always had a smile on her face." 

Her last day on campus was Dec. 21, where she worked as secretary to diversity and affirmative action officer, Veronica Henry. Luetje, a Farmingdale State employee since 2009, loved poetry and will have the school's poetry award named in her honor, spokeswoman Kathy Coley said.

Police are asking for help in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Nassau County Homicide Squad at 516-573-8800 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244 TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
