Police Investigating Hicksville Crash

Nassau Police are investigating a serious vehicular accident that occurred at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in Hicksville.

Detectives say a 79-year-old woman had parked her vehicle in the parking lot of the Plainview Shopping Center and tried to cross South Oyster Bay Road from east to west. She crossed over the northbound traffic lanes but was struck in the southbound traffic lane by a 1998 Plymouth Voyager van.

The driver of the van, a 43-year-old male, had attempted to stop, police say.

The woman sustained a serious head injury and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of her injury, according to police.

The van had a safety brake check on scene and was released to the driver.

There is no criminality at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

Whaddya mean "no criminality". Unsafe entry into a highway, failure to yield the right of way are some good starting points to ticket this old fool. I was almost killed the exact way at the exact shopping center, where some fool texting just pulled out in front of me while I was on SOB Rd and my car ended up on its roof. 79 years old may be time for granny to give up driving and make use of the bus and taxi services in the Town.

You misunderstood the story. She PARKED her car in the parking lot, and decided to WALK ACROSS SOB RD! Why anyone would do that is beyond me, but this woman needs good thoughts rather than harsh words!!!!
