Police: Man Drove Wrong Way, Caused Head-on Collision on Route 109

Incident resulted in minor injuries, police said.

A Farmingdale man was arrested early Sunday morning by Suffolk Police and charged with driving while intoxicated after he drove the wrong way on Route 109 in North Lindenhurst.

According to police, Jason Tyree, 27, was driving his 2001 Volvo westbound in the eastbound lane of Route 109, just west of Wellwood Avenue in North Lindenhurst at approximately 2:50 a.m.

The SCPD said drivers of eastbound vehicles had to swerve out of the way of the wrong-way vehicle to avoid a collision.

Tyree’s vehicle struck a 2012 Nissan head-on near 1144 Route 109, police said, causing minor injuries to himself and to the other driver.

Both drivers were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment, police noted.

Tyree was also charged for DWI and reckless endangerment in the second degree. This incident comes
