UPDATE: Police Probe Death of Pedestrian in East Farmingdale

Suffolk Police say victim was struck shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Route 109 by Massapequa Park Driver.

are investigating the death of a Lindenhurst man Friday night who was struck and killed in the vicinity of Route 109 in East Farmingdale near the Route 110 overpass.

Howard Reich, 55, was crossing Route 109, from north to south, at about 7:23 p.m. Friday when he was struck in the far right lane by a westbound car. 

The driver of that car, a rented 2011 Hyundai Sonata, was identified as Kenneth S. Simon, 54, of Massapequa Park.

Reich was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner

Simon was uninjured; he was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license.

The Hyundai was impounded for a routine safety check.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
