A man who police said robbed a Dairy Barn in Bethpage was stopped on the Southern State Parkway where cops smelled alcohol on his breath and found a a crack pipe in his car.
The robbery occurred Wednesday at 10:58 p.m. when Robert Dukich, 41, of Westbury, entered a Dairy Barn at 1 Collector Lane and allegedly demanded money from the cashier.
She stepped away from the cash register and Dukich used a crow bar to pry it open, police said.
He fled the scene with an unknown amount of cash.
A petrol car heard a radio report of the robbery and spotted Dukich driving erratically on the southbound Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway, cops said.
He then headed east on the Southern State Parkway before cops finally stopped him at exit 30S in Massapequa.
Officers detected the odor of alcohol and discovered the crack pipe, cops said.
Dukich was charged with drriving while ability impaired, robbery and weapons possession.
There were no customers in the store at the time of the robbery and nobody was hurt.
