Police: Woman Pushed Nassau Cop Down Stairs

Officer is hospitalized; Levittown woman is charged with felony assault.

A Levittown woman is facing felony assault charges after she pushed a Nassau County Police officer down the stairs of a home in East Rockaway on Sunday, police said. 

Police responded to a domestic disturbance call on Third Avenue in East Rockaway Sunday at 11 p.m. While working to resolve the matter, police said a Fourth Precinct officer was at the top of the stairs escorting the defendant, Veronica Berk, 31, of Grace Lane in Levittown, out of the residence.

Berk then allegedly pushed the officer down the stairs.

The officer sustained injuries to his left leg and to his abdominal area, and was transported by a Nassau County Ambulance to a local area hospital for treatment, according to police. 

Berk is charged with second degree assault and second degree obstructing government administration. She will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday.
