The South Farmingdale Fire Department has announced its annual open house for Sunday afternoon, Oct. 21 at their headquarters on Main Street.
The event, which runs from 1-3:30 p.m. Sunday, will include demonstrations by the department's hazmat team, live extraction drill and a demonstration on ventilating a house.
The focus of the open house is fire prevention, and that includes a smoke house where kids can experience the conditions of a simulated fire, created through the use of fog machines, firefighters said.
There will be raffles an a blood-pressure screening, popcorn and prizes. A blood drive is also planned.
The theme of this year's presention is "two ways out," methods for staying safe and escaping a fire. The theme of fire prevention is tied to "Fire Prevention Month," where fire departments around the country take time to present safety information to the public.
The entire community is welcome to the free event, firefighters said.
