Suffolk Police Probe Wave of East Farmingdale Burglaries

Neighborhood off Carmans Road targeted; tips to stay safe.

Suffolk County Police are investigating a series of burglaries in one section of East Farmingdale.

At least four burglaries and one burglary attempt have been reported since April 5. The most recent, a failed attempt, took place Monday, a Suffolk police spokewoman said. Neighbors reported hearing of additional burglaries, all in the general vicinity of East Carmans Road near Michel Park.

According to police, the list of area burglaries includes:

  • April 5-8: East Carmans Road; a break-in through a second floor window where jewelry was taken.
  • April 11: Birch Avenue; a break-in through an unlocked rear window. jewelry, two laptops and other items were taken.
  • April 12: Bonwit Place; entry through a bathroom window; no loss.
  • April 12: Carnation Drive; break-in through a glass sliding door; gold jewelry taken.
  • April 22: East Carmans Road; rear window screen damage, apparently no entry.
As is typical of this type of burglary, these break-ins took place when the homes were unoccupied. Police experts say people should leave lights and a radio or TV on during daylight hours and neighbors should watch out for each others property.

Police said they are actively investigating the incidents and have increased patrols in the area.

A police spokeswoman said anyone with information about the burglaries should  call 1-800 220-TIPS (8477.) Neighbors who spot suspicious people or vehicles in the neighborhood should immediately contact 911.
