Tell Us: Blowing Through Stop Signs

We know its happening with alarming regularity. What are Farmingdale's worst rolled through stop signs.

All year, we've seen trouble on Farmingdale's highways. Readers, both pedestrians and drivers weighed in and gave suggestions on how the issue should be addressed.

We'd like your opinion on stop signs:

  • Do you know of a location where a stop sign is frequently rolled through or ignored?
  • Are there any spots in town that are notorious for drivers that break the rules?
  • Have you had any accidents at these spots or witnessed others come close?

Tell us in the comments below. We'll add the intersection to the map on the ride side of your screen.

clearly Saxon Rd. and Kent St. must be one of the worst if not the worst. Saxon is used as shortcut by hundreds of motorists a day from Carmans Rd to Rt 110 and a large amount of these vehicles blow right past sign without stopping at all.

Cedar Drive and Lawrence Street which is also a Bus Stop. Residental street with a traffic light at the end to get onto Hempstead Turnpike,,,They not only don't stop at the stop sign, they hit the gas, fly thru it to catch the green light! I've even watch the Ice Cream man do it. Guess it is better to put peoples lives in jeopardy then to have to wait for the light to turn green again

Almost every stop sign in Farmingdale or Nassau county for that matter. I know that most of the signs on Walnut Ave East are ran constantly. Its not the sign or the placement, its the drivers of today. Unfortunately until they are in serious trouble or someone gets hurt it won't change. Honestly even if the penalty was significant or something did happen I doubt it will ever change. People just seam to be in a constant rush and need to slow down!!

I couldn't agree with you more. Except, I'd also add New York as a whole, not just Nassau. It is probably everywhere in the US that is not rurual.

Are there any spots in town that are notorious for drivers that break the rules? Yes, the Farmingdale train station. I'm there everyday to pick up or drop off a family member. Motorists enter the parking lot where it states "Do Not Enter". Or motorists would exit the parking lot where it's an "Enter only" Was almost in two accidents. Called police with this problem and they did nothing about it. We need more people to call the police department with this issue.

what would be nice is if for once people at the intersection of Woodward and Fallwood would GO WHEN IT'S THEIR TURN. When you get to the stop sign first, you go first! Stop waving other people to go. So freaking annoying.

Staples street and Clinton !!! People don't even bother to hit the brakes to roll through!!!!!

Kelly you beat me too it. I used to be shocked at what I see at Staples & Clinton---Now I expect it.

Staples Street and Van Cott Avenue. There is a stop sign only for Southbound traffic, not for Northbound traffic. People are constantly going through that stop sign thinking people heading in opposite direction, making a left in front of them, have a stop sign also. They don't!!! It's very annoying and I don't want to be "dead" wrong!

The end of Secatague and Melville. Numerous times, I have been sitting on Secatague to make a left onto melville...when i have had the right of way, they just roll through it and go. There also has been a few instances where the person coming down melville doesnt even stop, they just fly right through it as if it wasnt even there. I have almost gotten hit quite a few times. I always make sure i sit for a second before i go, because it happens almost all the time. In my opinion, there really should be a cop sitting there or a traffic light or something because its dangerous.

Erica, ALL of Melville road is a danger. I have stopped and the person behind me comes around me to sail through. Up by the college I have been passed on the left while in the left lane. Yes, the car went in the oncoming lane. The college drivers are go fifty plus. I almost got hit with a stop sign blower coming out of the college. I had my son in the car and had to slam on my breaks. I called the cops about the goings on as I drive that road nightly. He promised a car weeks ago, but I haven't seen one. Sorry to say, someone getting killed won't deter it. Cops need to sit at these bad sections. I have anxiety every time I get behind the wheel.

What the use of even talking about it? We need to march on the issue at the police department. I would head it up, but I bet not even one person here to volunteer to join me. We like to complain, but its not enough. I can't imagine it could get worse, but it will.

There was a cop at the secatague/melville intersection a few days ago... But, his car was facing south towards the train station... I would really like to know what good it is if hes not even facing the traffic and is unable to see whats going on behind him. But i agree with a few other people in this post, its not just farmingdale... Its all over nassau county... Actually, its pretty much all over the island.

No. Crescent Drive and E. Walnut...nobody stops!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone on every block has a stop sign that people blow through. The Police Department does do enforcement but it's impossible to enforce every stop sign all the time. Besides traffic enforcement officers are answering calls for service, patriolling, taking reports ect. It would be nice to have a cop on every corner but the resources just aren't there, never have been never will be. Remember while you are complaining about the stop sign on your block there are 100's of other people complaining about stop sign's on their block and everyone wants its addressed ASAP. So don't be so quick to blame the cops put the blame where it belongs with the reckless drivers that blatantly disregard stop signs and lights. An Officer just lost his life yesterday maybe some of you should maybe give the cops a little break from your complaints about them at least till after the funeral sheesh. May Officer Oliveri rest in peace and may his family take comfort in knowing that there are some of us that appreciate what they do. I think it's very selfish to to go and make a bunch of stop sign complaints now, it can wait a few days. RIP

The corner of Graham St and Michel Ave. It really needs to be an all way stop. People roll through it constantly. There was a recent accident there and I hear near-misses all the time. Very scary.
