Tell Us: Gun Buy-Back Program

Do programs like this make a difference in reducing street crime?

Nassau County purchased some 330 illegal guns this week and put them on display at the Office of Emergency Management on Tuesday.

It was an impressive collection: nearly 200 handguns, 15 assault rifles, seven sawed-off shotguns and two semi-automatic handguns.

The question we pose is this: Do you think these programs work? Do they make a difference, or only serve to remove a small portion of the illegal guns on the street?

What is your solution to illegal guns?

Studies done throughout the country show that gun buy back programs are more show than substance and do little to get guns out of the hands of criminals. The guns on the streets being used to commit crimes are not the ones police are buying. The gun program results in a lot of guns people had at home being brought in for quick money. They are a PR bonanza, but not much else. Better to use the money someplace else.

Hate to sound like an old woman, but when it was Von Leeson's it was always a joy to be there. AllRead More the staff had been there for years and treated the customers like family. Food was consistently good and they never "ran out" of anything. This place shouldn't be open for business. The poor kid waiting on us last time had to come to me and tell me they had no dessert to have with coffee other than ice cream. We left him a nice tip and I told him to find a job somewhere else; he'd never make any money there. It's a great location. We just need some smart business people to run it!

Sorry wont be going back any time soon, unless I see a new mngment or new owner sign.

. This place is just not good. There is nothing appealing about poor service and absolutely horribleRead More food. It should have stayed closed when it went out of business not long ago. I hope the employees can find another means .
