Update: Fire Under Control, Town Called to Remove Debris

As of 4:45 p.m., the fire at Rudy's Auto Body was declared under control.

The heavy fire at Rudy's Auto Repair Shop has been declared under control, according to the East Farmingdale Fire Department.

"The Town of Babylon has now been called to bring in heavy equipment to move the debris from the area," said Joe Scura, district administrator for the East Farmingdale Fire Department.

Route 109 was closed because a fire hose had to be stretched across the road. Traffic was redirected at northbound Carmens Road at Route 24, E.Main St at Route 109 and Route 109 at 110.

The building sits right at the border of Nassau and Suffolk county, so both the Village of Farmingdale and the East Farmingdale Fire Departments received calls and responded. Bethpage Fire Department and South Farmingdale Fire Department provided assistance, and North Masspeqeua was standing by locally.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Either the Nassau County fire marshal or the Town of Babylon fire marshal will investigate.
