UPDATE: Woman Injured, Man Charged with DWI in E. Farmingdale Crash

Four taken to the hospital, one with serious injuries, police said.

A husband faces a DWI charge and his wife is in critical but stable condition Wednesday after a car crash Tuesday night, Suffolk County Police said.

"She remains in the ICU at Nassau University Medical Center," said Shelley Lotenberg, a spokeswoman for the hospital.

The crash occurred on Wellwood Avenue at Long Island Avenue in East Farmingdale. According to first squad detectives, Ronald Giovelli was driving a 2001 Suzuki Vitara southbound on Wellwood Avenue at approximately 7:43 p.m. and when he stopped in the left lane to make a left turn onto Long Island Avenue, he was struck in the rear by a 1999 Subaru Forrester driven by Jeffery Hirsch, 57.

Hirsch’s wife, Pauline, 57, a passenger in the Subaru, was initially transported by the to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bethpage. She was then transferred to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where she was treated for serious injuries. Giovelli, 40, of Deer Park, and his passenger were transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released. 

Jeffery Hirsch, of Bay Shore, was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Hirsch was charged with driving while intoxicated and will be arraigned at the First District Court in Central Islip today. 

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed this crash to contact the first squad at 631-854-8152 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Hate to sound like an old woman, but when it was Von Leeson's it was always a joy to be there. AllRead More the staff had been there for years and treated the customers like family. Food was consistently good and they never "ran out" of anything. This place shouldn't be open for business. The poor kid waiting on us last time had to come to me and tell me they had no dessert to have with coffee other than ice cream. We left him a nice tip and I told him to find a job somewhere else; he'd never make any money there. It's a great location. We just need some smart business people to run it!

The young man server was doing his best, but still eggs, potatoes, and hash, no potatoes come, begged for coffee refills, ketchup was the very bottom of a heinz bottle. The excuse was sorry we have a new cook,..something tells me that aint the only problem, how does one screw up breakfast. Sorry wont be going back any time soon, unless I see a new mngment or new owner sign.
