Babylon Town residents will soon see a new carting company picking up their garbage each week.
According to a report in Newsday, the Town has awarded a new 10-year contract to Jody Enterprises of Babylon, Inc. The company is a subsidiary of Jody Enterprises Inc., which currently hauls trash for more than 30,000 homes in Brookhaven, Huntington, Islip and Smithtown.
With the new contract, Town officials estimate a savings of about $10 million over the first year, Newsday reported, adding that it was not known what impact this might have on taxes for next year.
Town Supervisor Richard Schaffer told Newsday that the new contract provides long-term stability and the same level of service at a lower cost.
