Cascarino's Asks Board's Permission to Expand

Restaurant owner and namesake wants to make Cascarino's a true Farmingdale favorite.

Cascarino's is looking to expand, as owner Tony Cascarino will plead his case to the Farmingdale Village Board August 6 for an interior expansion permit allowing him to renovate the interior of the building. The expansion into the ground level of the nextoor is a way for Cascarino to explore what he refers to simply as a hobby.

Cascarino's plans for expansion include taking newly acquired space in Gatto's and transforming it into an old fashioned Italian restaurant with oak flooring, copper ceilings, and brick walls covered in large paintings. In addition, the existing bathroom will be expanded to accommodate wheelchairs and the kitchen preparation area will be tweaked.

"I want to have a different type of menu -- all Italian of course," said Cascarino of his plans for the restaurant. "It'll have a San Gennaro, Little Italy, Mulberry Street feel to it. We'll have TV monitors on the walls playing old Italian movies and nostalgia all around."

Expanding the original Cascarino's has been an ongoing goal for the owner, who said that building things up is more of a hobby than a way of making a living.

"Well, we appreciate your having your hobby in Farmingdale," replied trustee Thomas Ryan.

For Cascarino, Farmingdale is a perfect spot to be able to experiment and explore within a growing business, especially for young entrepreneurs. It is because of those young businesspeople and the economy, however, that the expansion and innovation are critical.

"There are a lot of empty shops in town," said Cascarino. "I can't afford another pizza parlor to open up. Expanding what I have will hopefully keep others out."

If approved, the expansion will be another step toward transforming the restaurant into a central village gathering place.

"Farmingdale doesn't have a café," said Cascarino, who has his eye on an outdoor garden at Gatto's to change into a cozy seating area.

"At some point, I'd like to maybe open up a bakery," he added, saying that he had been scouting spots on Main Street. The board agreed that an Italian bakery was an excellent idea.

Cascarino's will not be permitted to begin construction work until after the board issues the special permit at the Aug. 6 Village Board meeting.

I have read other comments and i do agree with Gabriel. The quality is of low standards. They are very lucky because most of their customers just dont know qulaity. When your custmomers just dont know then its ok to give them a low quality product for a higher price. Just not knowledgeable people coming through the doors. but you are making a mistake expanding because you are just not going to find enough custmomers paying high end prices for low end food. To many nicer better quality places to eat. Good luck mr Millionaire speaking to all like its just a hobby. lol.. Can someone tell me if its true that the NY Mets kicked them out?

Are you ready to pay high prices for low quality food? Did you ever see thier menu then their quality then the actual food. Its horrible. Good luck to you...

The villiage will give them the permit. The villiage is not gaining anything by doing what they are doing. They are loosing a art gallery and making a low class pizza parlore bigger, and wow what else can the villiage do but another place with beer. Amazing. Good luck to the villiage..

Its is sad that the beautiful art gallery is leaving. This is a bad hit to Farmingdale Villiage. Now you are letting this low class food place expand? Makes no sense. They have a bad reputaion already for being snooty to people and acting like their doing us a favor my being there. Shea Stadium kicked them and for good reason, and now they are trying to buy their way in the villiage. Must have deep pockets. Big mistake bring more alchol to the villiage. Especially to a person like Mr. Cascario that has no respect for the villiage and always has a negative thing to say about all the villiage people and staff. I have eaten here a few times and never a good thing stated from his mouth about the villiage. always complaining about all the competion that the villiage lets in. Good luck mr money bags. How long do you think the nice people of the villiage are going to accept your bull?

Though i respect your decision, i feel its a mistake. This is not a good business man. Not smart at all. You see how much of a change there will be with this man around. He is only here because the mets through him out... He will mess up the villiage with his BS>>>>

I agree with you Kyle. I have eaten here 2 times and the food stinks. I gave them a second chance because i felt that no one can screw up that much. when we came back to eat again the food was worse then the 1st time, so we gave up.. have not heard anything great about this place, or the people who own it. When i was there. all the owner was talking about was the place accross the street. He refered it to the other pizza place and restaurant and how he was upset how many of his customers were going in there. He bad mouthed the place by telling all his customers that Frankies was giving the food away for free just to get customers. He made all of us laugh.

Amazing! The Farmingdale Villiage told Cascarino's that they are not permitted to work on the premisses until the villiage hearing. And of course, Mr. Cascarino thinks he is above the law and does it anyway in the face of the villiage. The amazing thing about this is, the villiage loves to write tickets on businesses who brake the laws, and somehow they are turning the cheek on this place that is already doing renavation on the premises. How funny is that? They are working on it in broad day light! lmao!! Great villiage that can be bought under a table. Try to park somewhere that is illegal. Before you blink the ticket will be there!!!!! Low class place like so many others have written already, and foia, they did get kicked out of Shea Stadium. I heard that they are getting sued. Dont be suprised if both of these places do a nice bankruptcy!!! Good look to both of the landlords!!! lol

Wow a lot of angry people that don't know what there talking about the citi field contract was up an cascarinos never re up there contract reason is that queens location was running citi field also the owner in longisland could be any nicer maybe people should see what he does for the town an church he never says no to anything also the food wow try it it's the best that one horse town has to offer real Italian food I mean real so good luck to all the negative people look in the mirror it sucks that you can't like your self an need to drag down progress because you have no balls

Wow Jack you are the first one to stick up for this man. i have heard many negative things about this man also. FOIA Me and my friends ate her a while back and he must of been a different person that day we went there. Its funny because he spoke about how bad the villiage is. Also how he is going to take over the villiage. how the village can be bought. How the spanish restaurant serves alcohol with only a beer liscense. How he is best in the villiage in pizza. This man must be related to you for you to do what you are doing. And for you to know so much of his personal life is amazing. This is a funny man. He is considered a person who thinks he can buy his way around. And funny about the mets comment. He made his reputation on being the official pizza for the mets. how come he took everything off his windows about the mets. Got rid of the little delivery trucks that had official pizza of the mets. How come these days he tells people he had nothing to do with the Shea Stadium mets? He is so funnnnny. lol This man must be your uncle or something..... Good luck eating here. in my opinion when your place has a chef of makebelieve cook that gets fired every few months then a new one comes and replaces the old one, its not a restaurant. its called cooking out of a book. Makebelieve cooks. Understand, like progresso soup out of a can, heating it serving it and call it homemade. lol Crack head food.. llol

I agree with you and so many others. This man is crazy. lol He needs help. I wish this man good luck in his future endeavors. We call his place makebelive. Thats the style of his cooking.. Frozen in to a microwave and sauce it up cheese it and serve it.

Wow again a low comment from a man who has no idea the chef has been there two years yes I heard him talk about the other pizza place across the street on how bad it is an the food is like eating card board an the owner looks like a broken down mop he also has been seen eating at the Spanish place were he loves the food I guess your comments are jealous of a person who has a lot of money an connections a guy like you knows only what you hear if you did your home work you would know this owner has a lot of knowledge maybe you should sit with him he's not there much but when he's there he's very cool but I expect a person like you to bad mouth success simple minded do more research maybe you'll life would better also I don't think you know go food if it was on your plate not a paper plate by the way try to enjoy life

this guys food is the best in the town I live here 25 years i will never eat any where else i guess some of these other comments are from the local resturants like nobody gets that maybe the guy across the street frankies who stays open late because during normal hours an sober people wont touch his food keeping putting the most cheese to hide that thing you call sause the only place that comes close to good pizza is ginos

Dear Dave: This person must be related to you because you are fighting for his reputation. Thats cool. But facts are facts. The place ascarino quality wise is low. The food quality is low. The man does have a lot of money. That is great. He bragged all over Farmingdale about the Mets and his associaiton with them. He built a reputation with it. Now its gone for what ever reason, its gone. The reason the trucks are out of the street is simply there are not busy evough to use them and most of the drivers abuse the cars and trucks. The mets came out of the window quick and erased from all trucks because Cascarino does not want to get sued. What is your big deal with Frankies accross the way? Dont understand that one at all. Your talking bad about a business that is diong nothing to you. I have eaten in Cascarino. I have paid good money to get their food and I am entitled to a opinion. It is not my fault of that opinion is negative. Its based on what quality they gave me which was a low quality. Cascarino is only busy because he gives the food away frm these retarted coupons like 1/2 of dinner. When you give a plate of low quality to people, sometimes they dont care about the quality, just price. That is what this man is bringing through their doors. Look at the customers entering. Just bargain hunters living day to day. . Which is cool and ok but please dont ever talk about quality with this place. Gino's and Frankies blows this place away...

What can be said about this place? I have eaten here with friends. The price was bit pricy. Seervice was poor to say the least. Waitress has little to no knowledge on how to please a customer. Thats ok. Maybe she is new. To the quantitiy, it was enough and over the normal amount of pasta, not the meat part. Sauce was not tasty at all. Wine was nice. on a scale to 1 to 100 this place is rated about a 40. My opinion. There are to many better places then this one to pay what we did and get so little quality back..

Rumor has it that BIG ANG is going to be at Cascarino's. There is a 7 ft women hanging around there lately. It might just be BIG ANG!!!!!! She has her own show...

No sir, you do not know what you are talking about. The best italian food in this "one horse town" is Ubaldos. Obviously you have not eaten there. And if you knew anything about good pizza, you would know there are much better pizza establishments nearby.

Rosemaries blows cascarinos away in pizza and food. As for main street, just go down the block to Ubaldos...WAAAAYYY better than cascarinos

LMAO I think that women is his wife or sister, not big Ang! lol In all honesty the pizza at Cascarino's is not that good at all. it dont taste like a qualtiy slice of pizza. So many angry people here its funny. I am not friends with anyone but i will say my part of the truth. The food and the pizza and the staff are just not up to par. Its a ok place and ok qualiity. Many other better places to spend your money. I read some people bad mouthing Gino's and Frankies in the villiage but the funny thing is they were both neck and neck in the pizza contest in farmingdale. Cascarinos was eliminated in the first part. Is that telling you something? You can fight and defend all you want but low quality is still the same at the end of the day, just low quality. you can paint it, and add Gold to it, its still what it is, low quality...

Hay Jeff, i might take you up on that offer. I will try Umbardo's on main. Me and my family recently had dinner at Frankies on Friday. We ate Veal Francese and My friend had Chicken francese and i miust truly say that the food was amazing. But i will try your recommendation. And i agree with you that Cascarino is not even in the top 5 of good places in the villiage. But thank you very much...

Hi Frank: Just out of curiousity, I know for a fact that Frankies uses grande Mozzerella and a sauce that is called Saporito and 7/11 what sauces on todays market are better then those 2? They are the highest of quality and the most expensive. What sauces does your place use? It must be made from Gold. I think that you are talking out of anger and not inteligence. And I belive that frankies stays open late because he is busy. That is why Bollingers follows his lead.. Dont you think. No one in the villiage stays open late, now that someone does and got over 100 positive reviews on Farmingdale patch, you want to bad mouth her store? You are not nice.... If you speak the truth, i understand, you state a lot of bull. Good luck..

And by the way, the man who is a pizza man is donating his hair to locks for kids. Its for kids with cancer who loose their hair. He is getting it cut for donation. Hello angela.i live in farmingdale within walking distance to the village...ubaldos is quality. I will be honest and say that i have not eaten there in over a year, but the lasagna was homemade and outrageously good. Your welcome by the way...hope it is still good when you try it :)

I know that for a fact. Cascarino food and pizza is of low quality. But thats ok because the majority of his customers are of older people who probably are on a budjet and thats ok. Quality wise, on a scale to 1 to 10. they are probably a six next to domino's. I am still a big fan of Frankies eastSide Gourmet pizza, they have a great selection, and u would probably be amazed of his quality of food. Their sauces are amazing. I will tell you what Jeff, you try Frankies lasagna, i will try Umbertos we will write about it in two weeks after the holiday. What do you say? lol

Hey angela, it's ubaldo, not umbertos..of new hyde park lol. But sounds like a plan.. i have eaten frankies pizza when he was on the south side and since he moved. Pretty good pizza..haven't tried his food yet. I will write when i do. Thanks for the motivation to try something else

5:23 pm on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 I have to say Kyle.....I truly enjoy all of the food each time I visit...especially the pizza...I made the mistake of trying the other pizza place (i forget the name, as it was not worth remembering) on Main St. and what a complete and utter let down! I found what appeared to be a maggot in my pizza crust......it was baked right in. But then again it was 4am so what did I really expect. It's a dirty place. I actually stumbled across Cascainos and remembered that I had just seen them the last time I was at Citifield. I recognized the name! I just had to try a slice! I wish I will have the kind of money one day to be able to open a famous pizzeria and restaurant as a hobby! Good for them!
