Farmingdale Theater Owner Reappointed

Fred DeFeis will serve again on Suffolk County's Citizens Advisory Board for the Arts.

Fred DeFeis, , was unanimously reappointed to a three-year term on the Suffolk County Citizens Advisory Board for the Arts this summer.

The resolution sponsored by Suffolk Legislator Lou D’Amaro, D-North Babylon. DeFeis, of Deer Park, will continue to represent D’Amaro’s district as a volunteer on the 18-member Advisory Board. 

The board was established in 1978 and works with arts organizations and agencies to assist in promoting, funding, expanding and planning cultural programs throughout the County.

“It is a pleasure to serve on the Advisory Board for the Arts and assist in giving recognition, support and meaning to the many wonderful existing and new arts groups throughout the County,” said DeFeis. “I thank Legislator D’Amaro and his colleagues for supporting me in my continuing desire to promote and encourage art and culture for our residents.”

DeFeis founded Arena Players in Pittsburgh and established its Suffolk County location more than four decades ago.  Currently in its 62nd season, Arena has hosted numerous theater festivals, concerts, operas and plays over the years and will be relocating to the grounds of the Vanderbilt Museum in Centerport in late October.

 “Through his passion and leadership at Arena Players, Fred DeFeis has been bringing affordable live theater to our local residents since the 197os, and I am pleased that he has agreed to continue to serve on the Suffolk County Citizens’ Advisory Board for the Arts,” said D’Amaro.  “His experience, knowledge and foresight make him a true asset for the board and the entire county.”
