Village Tree Lighting Ceremony

Where:
When: Dec. 2, 6 a.m.
Why Go: Join the Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society, the South Shore Brass Ensemble and singers from Northside

Holiday Opera at Farmingdale Methodist

Where:
When: Dec. 2, 7:30 p.m.; Dec. 3, 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Why Go: The Farmingdale United Methodist Church will present three performances of the advent opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors," a story with colorful numbers followed by a special Christmas carol sing-along. The hour-long opera, by Gian-Carlo Menotti, will be performed in English by professional singers, dancers and chorus under the direction of David Majoros, music director of FUMC.

Wine Events

Where:
When: Dec 3, 2 -6 p.m.; Dec. 4, 1 - 4 p.m.
Why Go: On Saturday there will be a special engraving of Johnnie Walker Blue bottles. On Sunday, bottles of Woodford Reserve, Gentleman Jack or Jack Daniel's Single Barrel will be engraved. The retailer was just named "Wine Retailer of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast magazine.

'The Bash' at The Nutty Irishman

Hear live music at this Main Street hot spot.

Breakfast with Santa

Where:
When: Dec. 3, 8:30 a.m.
Why Go:
All children, friends and family can come see Santa at a special fundraiser breakfast. This includes breakfast, goodies, raffle tickets and a photo with Santa (bring your camera). Proceeds benefit "Toys for Tots." Residents are encouraged to make reservations in advance.

$10 donation per person (kids under 2 are free).

TOBAY Holiday Ice Show

Where: TOBAY Skating Rink, Bethpage
When: Dec. 3, 6 p.m.
Why Go:
Student skaters will perform a choreographed holiday show and there will be a chance to take photos with Santa after.

Free (2 can donation encouraged for Island Harvest)

Annual Gingerbread University

Where: Nassau County Bar Association, 15th & West St., Mineola
When:
Dec. 3, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Why Go: At the Annual Gingerbread University Holiday Workshop, hosted by the WE CARE Fund of the Nassau County Bar Association, children of all ages will have the opportunity to decorate their very own gingerbread houses. Upon successful completion of the course “curriculum,” graduating students will receive their creations as well as a diploma in the Degree in Gingerbreadology. All proceeds from the annual holiday event are donated to the WE CARE Fund, money distributed through charitable grants to improve the quality of life for children, the elderly and others in need throughout Nassau County. Family Sundays at the Nassau County Museum of Art

Where:
When:
Dec. 4, 1 p.m.
Why Go:
Spend Sunday visiting the exhibits with your family. There is a walk-through of the exhibition at 1 p.m. and beginning at 1:30pm there are supervised art activities for the whole family. There are special family guides of the main exhibition available in the galleries free with museum admission.
Pricing: Admission varies. Weekend parking fee is $2 (members free).
