Recent Health Inspections Give Local Restaurants Good Grades

Of the 60 Farmingdale eating establishments inspected in 2013, only 11 critical violations were cited. Access the entire list here.

The State Health Department reported inspections of some 60 food service establishments in Farmingdale in 2013 and found the vast majority to be largely in compliance with state codes.

That's the results of a Patch review of state documents  of those inspections.

For example, establishments as diverse as Caracara Restaurant and Wings Over Farmingdale on Main Street, along with most concession stands at Bethpage State Park, had no violations in 2013. Carlyle on the Green, the jewel restaurant at the park, had several non-critical violations, according to the report.

Only one Farmingdale establishment had more than "one critical violation,"according the report which said Lucky House had two. The critical violations are more serious.

In the case of Lucky House, the state said cooked or prepared foods were subject to cross contamination from raw foods. The state also said the restaurant did not have accurate food thermometers to test for safe internal temperatures.

The McDonald's on Fulton Street was cited for the same cross contamination problem in the 2013 report.

The routine violations were noted in a wide range of local establishments. For example, many of these were evidence of food not being protected during storage, display and service. That's the equivalent of not tightly wrapping leftovers in your household refrigerator.

The various county health departments make these inspections routinely and follows up with restaurants that have critical violations. The reports then go to the state.

The report stated that, in follow up visits, all of the violations had been corrected, including those cited as critical.
