Senior Citizens Offered Summer Programs

Aquatics, dancing and bridge among the offerings.

The senior summer program gets underway July 10 for Town of Oyster Bay residents.

Aquatics, line dancing and musical entertainment are among the activities seniors can enjoy.

“The Town’s Department of Community & Youth Services, Division of Senior Citizens Services, sponsors a summer program, which will run this year every Monday through Friday from July 10 to August 16th,” Supervisor John Venditto said.  To participate in the aquatic classes, seniors must sign in each day with the senior staff on site starting at 11 a.m.

On Mondays and Fridays, the North Massapequa and William P. Bennett Hicksville Community Centers will offer such activities such as beginners bridge, ballroom dancing (at Hicksville only) and line dancing.

Tuesdays, the Bethpage Community Center will hold aquatic classes, and the Marjorie R. Post Community Center will be providing activities such as tai chi, line dancing, exercise and aquatic classes.

The special Wednesday program will be held at the Glen Head Community Center, where the day with activities including tai chi, crafts, bingo or a trip to Tappen Beach.  There will also be special entertainment by the Banjo Rascals, Naomi Zeitlin, the Vic Vincent Group, the Twin County Chorus and the John Walters Band, as well a senior idol competition.

Also on Wednesday, the Hicksville center will offer yoga, exercise and tai chi.

Plainview-Old Bethpage Community Park will hold aquatic classes on Thursday mornings, while Syosset-Woodbury Community Park will offer line dancing, crafts, board games, aquatic classes and exercise classes.

On Fridays, at the North Massapequa Community Center, there will be beginners bridge, tai chi and line dancing.”

Seniors interested in beginners bridge or the free bus transportation to Glen Head must register with the Senior Citizens Services Division at 797-7940 before July 2. The program continues until Aug.16.
