UPDATE: Signal Problems Repaired; Friday Commute Should be OK

System-wide delays were up to 30 minutes; cable problem fixed.

The Long Island Rail Road expects Friday morning's commute to be normal after major system-wide delays Thursday evening.

Thursday's problems were the result of cut signal cable inadvertently damaged by a contractor. The signal problems impacted two of the LIRR's four East River tunnels, the railroad reported.

The damage was repaired Thursday evening and should make Friday's commute normal.

Thursday's delays ranged up to 30 minutes system-wide.The delays impacted the Ronkonkoma line, which runs through Bethpage and Farmingdale, and the Port Jefferson line, which run through Hicksville.
