Tell Us: Moving Beyond the Land Sale

Now that town voters have OK'd the land sale, how long will the fight over a mall continue to rage?

Voters in the Town of Oyster Bay have weighed in on the sale of the Department of Public Works property in Syosset, but the battle over a proposed mall linked to the sale, rages on.

The sale was approved overwhelmingly Tuesday, putting $30 million in the Town coffers, but it also deals a setback to Taubman Centers inc. which has been trying to build a mall in the area adjacent to the land that was sold.

Taubman waged a failed campaign to get voters to nix the sale, while their competitor, Simon Properties, waged a campaign to thwart the mall.

Even though they lost the vote by nearly a 2-1 margin 18,333 to 9,480, Taubman has reportedly filed suit to block the sale in court.

We want to know what you think. Will this battle, which has gone on for 18 years, continue to rage on, or is the suit the last gasp of a defeated party?

Do you think Taubman's suit has merit, given the wide margin of victory in Tuesday's vote? What do you think should happen next?
