Town Needs Community's Help in Blood Drive

Semi-annual event is scheduled for March 7 at three town locations.

Oyster Bay Town leaders are urging residents to take part in the town's semi-annual blood drive on Thursday, March 7.

Winter is traditionally a season when blood donations decrease while hospital and patient needs remain the same.

“Approximately every two seconds, someone needs blood,” said Supervisor John Venditto. “An estimated four million Americans would die each year without it, which is why volunteer blood donors are always needed.”

“Blood banks need to be prepared 365 days a year,” said Councilman Joe Muscarella. “That is why people should always donate whenever they can."

Donating is quick and easy and is an entirely safe procedure. All materials used during the process are sterile, disposable and used only once…by you.

The blood drives will be held at these locations:

  • Town Hall South Conference Room, 977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa (9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)
  • Town Hall North at the Blood Mobile, 54 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
  • The Department of Public Works War Room (Highway Department), 150 Miller Place (11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.).

To qualify as a blood donor, a person must between the ages of 17 and 75 years old (16 with parental permission and 76 or older with a doctor’s note dated within one year of donation), weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated blood within the last 56 days.

To make an appointment to donate, or for additional information contact Nancy Haarstick at (516) 624-6304.

Hate to sound like an old woman, but when it was Von Leeson's it was always a joy to be there. AllRead More the staff had been there for years and treated the customers like family. Food was consistently good and they never "ran out" of anything. This place shouldn't be open for business. The poor kid waiting on us last time had to come to me and tell me they had no dessert to have with coffee other than ice cream. We left him a nice tip and I told him to find a job somewhere else; he'd never make any money there. It's a great location. We just need some smart business people to run it!

The excuse was sorry we have a new cook,..something tells me that aint the only problem, how does one screw up breakfast. Sorry wont be going back any time soon, unless I see a new mngment or new owner sign.

. This place is just not good. There is nothing appealing about poor service and absolutely horribleRead More food. It should have stayed closed when it went out of business not long ago. I hope the employees can find another means .
