Town of Oyster Bay spokeswoman Marta Kane said that the centers were opened at the request of Nassau County officials who asked if the Town could make some space available.

They are open until 5 p.m. on Wednesday and Kane said Town officials expect to hav the warming stations open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Residents are asked to check the Town's website for any updates.

The National Weather Service is forecasting the mercury to drop to 7 degrees on the north shore to 10 degrees on the south shore. Wind chills will make it feel like it's below zero.

I imagine funding would be an issue. In addition, the bible has a story about not just feeding a man fish but to teach then hoo to fish. if funding is not an issue, then a social worker would be in order, to find out why they are in the good and help them stay out of their situations.

I agree -a warming station during business hours?- This obviously was not given any thought at all- -could be a furnace is broken awaiting repair-or something more serious-some pre-planning need-winter comes each year.

Agreed. The daytime warming station in Massapequa would be the Sunrise Mall. Bonus, they are open later.
