Video: Farmingdale Mayor Honored at Fundraiser

Mayor Starkie helped raise money for historic preservation.

George "Butch" Starkie was the guest of honor at the Sands Point Preserve's Annual Fundraiser last weekend.

This year was a Western theme and Starkie dressed the part, sporting a cowboy hat and wearing a sheriff star.

Starkie helped raise money and donated garden materials to help maintain and preserve the historic Gold Coast era estate known as Hempstead House, once home of the Guggenheim family, now a county museum and nature preserve in Sands Point. Starkie says it is important for Long Island to preserve its cultural and historical treasures.
