The revived interest in a second rail line between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma has also spurred talk of new development in the area.
On Thursday, Farmingdale Mayor Ralph Ekstrand will meet with Long Island Rail Road President Helena Williams to discuss the proposed LIRR second track. The public session at the Farmingdale LIRR station will also address a proposal to bring new rental apartments and retail shopping in the vicinity of the Farmingdale station.
The so-called "Transit Oriented Development" under discussion is a residential and commercial area designed to maximize access to public transportation.
Patch will provide an update of the meeting later Thursday.
