on Merritts Road in South Farmingdale was robbed on Monday afternoon, according to Nassau County police. A few miles away down Hempstead Turnpike, a Roslyn Savings Bank in West Hempstead on Monday afternoon by a man with a similar description. Police are for the suspect wanted in connection with the Roslyn Savings Bank bank incidents and believe he is also responsible for a bank robbery in Freeport.

The Diocese of Rockville Centre announced Tuesday that it is closing six of its 53 elementary schools on Long Island at the end of the 2011-2012 school year, one of which is St. John Baptist de La Salle in Farmingdale.
