3 Candidates to Fight for 2 Spots on School Board

Two Farmingdale incumbents face challenge from newcomer; Vote is May 21

Three candidates will compete for two seats on the Farmingdale Board of Education next month.

Incumbents Russ Catanzaro and Tina Diamond will face challenger Michael Goldberg, an accountant, in the May 21 school board election, school officials said. The term is for three years.

Because the board's seven members are elected at large, the top two vote-getters will be elected.

The district's 2013-14 spending package will also be voted on that day.
The district has proposed a budget that is under the state's tax levy limit, a figure determined by New York State on a district-by-district basis. In Farmingdale, that budget figure stands at just under a 3-percent increase.

Other key upcoming dates include:

  • May 1: Board of Education meeting; Howitt Middle School @ 8 p.m.
  • May 11: Voter registration; Howitt Middle School from 3-9 p.m.
  • May 14: Public Hearing; 2013-14 proposed budget; Howitt @ 8 p.m.
  • May 16: Last day to register to vote.
  • May 21: Budget Vote and Election: Polling at Howitt gym from 6 a.m. - 9 p.m.
