Albany Avenue Students Draw Inspiration from Athlete

Soccer player, runner suffered hardship; talks to kids about endurance.

Students from Farmingdale Albany Avenue School had the opportunity to meet award-winning Long Island soccer player, Dennis Oehler, and listen to him speak about his program, “Changing Hearts and Minds.”

Oehler was an elite soccer player until critically injured after being hit by a car, resulting in his leg being amputated.

He overcame his injuries and is now an award-winning runner. Oehler shares his story with students across the nation, teaching them about motivation, positive attitudes, and how to respectfully treat people with disabilities.
