Commission Gives High Marks to Holy Trinity

Panel finds diocesan high school to be “healthy, energetic and stable” as it grants re-accreditation.

After a year-long self-study, Holy Trinity Diocesan High School has been granted reaccreditation by the Middle States Commission of Secondary Schools.

The team that visited and assessed the school during the 2011-2012 school year concluded that Holy Trinity was “healthy, energetic and stable.”

The visiting team noted many strengths during their site visit. First is the “profound sense of community.

"The students speak of the school as if it is their home. They rave about the caring of their teachers not just in the classroom but for the interest the teachers take in them on a personal level,“  the report said.

The report stated that “the students note how much they believe Holy Trinity has provided a foundation for them to achieve great success in the future and how they will be connected to the school well beyond their graduation.”

The second point concerns the teachers, staff and administrators that “support this culture of community through their very evident dedication to one another, the school and mostly importantly to the students.”

The team noted that “through our discussions and meeting it has come across clearly that the professional community of Holy Trinity Diocesan High School views their work as a calling and not a job.”

“Faith is palpable at Holy Trinity” the team reported. “Students are eager and encouraged to deepen their relationship with God through the fine work of the Campus Ministry Office, the guidance of the religion department, the retreat experiences, peer ministry and the opportunity to participate in liturgies.”

When looking at the education provided at Holy Trinity, the team speaks of it as “vibrant.”

“There is a vast array of course offerings, graduation requirements that exceed the state expectations, a resource room program, which provides the opportunity for a Catholic education to students with learning differences, a thriving arts program, a highly competitive athletics program and many club opportunities.

Often a telling sign of the health of an institution is identified by how many students are still in the building an hour after the last bell rang. It was very evident to the visiting team that the vast majority of students were certainly engaged with some activity well after the last bell.”

Holy Trinity High School is a private, co-educational Catholic high school founded in 1966 drawing students from Nassau, Suffolk and Queens counties.  It has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education Exemplary Schools Program and is nationally known for its outstanding Academics, Athletics and Performing Arts programs.
