Bands Battling Autism

Autism Speaks’ Student Initiatives program includes students of all ages and helps to further the mission of Autism Speaks by giving students the opportunity
to engage and actively participate in positively influencing the lives of people affected by autism through education, awareness, friendship, and fundraising. On Long Island, we are fortunate to be able to offer high school and middle school students the unique opportunity of serving on the Autism Speaks Youth Leadership Council. No other Autism Speaks area in the country can boast this type of student initiative. Council members take an active role in their community by organizing a school walk team, participating in Bands Battling Autism (the council’s signature fundraising event), volunteering at events for children with
autism, and promoting awareness.

The 4th Annual Bands Battling Autism takes place on November 3, 2012 at the Stuart Thomas Manor in Farmingdale, NY. Bands composed of local middle school and high school students perform at Bands Battling Autism for a chance to perform at the New York Islanders Autism
Awareness Night. The proceeds from the event are donated to support the 13th Annual Long Island Walk Now for Autism Speaks.
