Farmingdale Schools to Host Math Workshops for Parents

Sessions designed for parents to understand what's being taught in classrooms.

The Farmingdale School District will host two mathematic-based workshops for elementary school parents in December.

The workshops are scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 4 (grades 3-5) and Tuesday, Dec. 10 (grades K-2) at the Howitt Middle School Library. The workshops will provide parents and family members an in-depth analysis on the mathematics curriculum that is being taught to students throughout the 2013-2014 school year.

“These workshops provide parents a wonderful opportunity to learn about the new mathematics strategies and methods that are aligned with the common core curriculum,” said John Lorentz, Farmingdale School District Superintendent of Schools. “I encourage parents to attend these programs because we will provide them with additional resources to help their children enhance and develop their skills, both in the classroom and at home.”

Administrators and staff will host both forums and explain to parents the math concepts and problem-solving exercises that are being developed in classrooms. The interactive workshops will also include hands-on activities for parents.
