John DeTommaso started his new role as superintendent of the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District this month.

"I am blessed to be back in Bellmore-Merrick were I learned how to support kids to be their best," DeTommaso said at a board meeting on Tuesday night. "I am home."

DeTommaso, a Farmingdale native, worked as a social studies teacher at Mepham High School for six years and as an assistant principal and athletic director at Calhoun High School for seven years.

Before coming back to Bellmore-Merrick he worked as the Bethpage School District’s assistant superintendent for instruction and technology.

"I have gained deep memories in Bellmore-Merrick," he said. "We need to continue to raise the bar for our children because we want only the best for our kids. We have to keep the students first."
