From the Campus: Election Results, Commencement, Summer Camps

News from the campus of Farmingdale State College.

Evaluation Period at officially ends tomorrow, Saturday, May 14, as does the semester. With finals over, many students have fled the campus to begin their summer holiday. Others are sticking around to complete summer classes. The first summer session begins Monday, May 23, however the online registration period for that session has ended.  The next session begins Tuesday, July 5.  Those wishing to register can go online to this website, or register and pay in person on campus at the Registrar’s and Bursar’s office located on the second floor of Laffin Hall.  Laffin Hall is located directly west of the Melville Road entrance to the campus.

Election Results:
After about a month and a half and two voting rounds, Student Government election results have been made public to the campus community.  For next year, the student government will consist of President Kenneth Noriega, Second Vice President Tiara McLaughlin, Treasurer Diamela Duverge, and Secretary            Samantha Lau.  The Senate will consist of Nelly Charles, Kester Linares, Eduardo Mendoza, Nefi Navarro, and Yifan Wang.  Congratulations and best of luck to all winners.

92nd Commencement to Be Held, Noted Scientist to Speak:
On Saturday, May 15, Farmingdale State College will hold its 92nd Commencement exercises, during which approximately 1000 diplomas will be conferred.  At the ceremony, noted scientist Dr. Bruce Stillman, from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory will deliver the keynote speech to students. Dr. Stillman is noted for his research into DNA duplication and is a member of the prestigious U.S. National Academy of Sciences. Three students from Farmingdale will be honored for receiving the SUNY-wide Chancellors Award for academic excellence.  Lauren D’Alessandro of Setauket, Aristoteli Dorizas of Wantagh, and Andrew Hesse of Port Jefferson will be honored for their consistent academic excellence and outstanding community outreach.  Best wishes to all 2011 Graduates!

Technology and Engineering Summer Camps to be Held at FSC:
The Department of Engineering Technology will be holding engineering and technology related summer camps this semester for middle and high school students. The camps will focus on everything from building a race car, to the study of photovoltaic solar cells and many other areas.  Camps will run Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., starting the weeks of July 11, July 18, July 25, August 1, August 8 and August 15.  Participants can also opt to receive extra help in high school classes, like English Composition and Chemistry.  More information and a registration form will be attached.

Summer Hiatus:
As the College will mostly be closed for Summer break, this column will take a Summer hiatus.  Look for this column next Fall.  Until then, enjoy your summer, and be sure to join us back here next Fall.
