Howitt Students Raise Money For Needy

Middle School 8th Graders raise $9,500 through annual dance marathon.

Eighth grade students at the Farmingdale’s Howitt Middle School recently raised nearly $9,500 for the "Pajama Program."

The national not-for-profit organization's mission is to deliver warm sleepwear and books to children who are in need.

Howitt students planned a variety of fundraisers to support their charity, including a five hour dance marathon to raise money for the cause. The students also collected more than 450 new books and 72 pairs of pajamas.

The year-long fundraiser taught the students about the logistics of event planning, marketing and philanthropy, organizers said.
