Mathematicians To Gather for Farmingdale State Conference
Regional MAA discussion to be held on campus May 5.
Perhaps the best known mathematics professor in the region, Dr. Alan Tucker of Stony Brook University, will open the Mathematical Association of America annual conference on the campus of Farmingdale State College on Sunday, May 5.
Dr. Tucker will speak on “The History of the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics in the United States.”
Registration and refreshments for the Metropolitan New York Section’s annual meeting begin at 8:30 a.m. in Roosevelt Hall and the conference will end at 5 p.m.
Purdue University Professor David F. Gleich’s presentation is titled “How Does Google Google? A journey into the wondrous mathematics behind your favorite websites.”
In addition, the Museum of Mathematics Design Team, which includes Founder Glen Whitney, Cindy Lawrence, and Tim Nissen, will deliver a presentation titled, “Math Unleashed.”
Following an awards ceremony, there will be sessions for contributed papers and posters. Everyone in the math community is invited to participate – students and professors alike.
