Rams Lead in SUNY Mascot Challenge

Everyone loves Rambo as Farmingdale State looks to advance to second round of online fan vote.

March is known for brackets and head-to-head competition. The State University of New York is holding its own form of March Madness by pitting member schools against one another to see who has the best mascot.

Thirty SUNY schools have been seeded and placed in an NCAA Tournament-style bracket. Red Dragons, Seawolves and Kangaroos are all vying for best mascot.

But so too is Farmingdale State College, home of the Rams. And for one round at least, the Rams are the more popular choice. Farmingdale State leads the Genesee CC Cougars with 53 percent of the vote as of Friday with 3,200 votes cast.

Put your faith in a mascot nicknamed Rambo. When asked how he landed the gig, the Farmingdale State mascot said: “Audition. It was a real cattle call. I beat out an old guy who was sweaty, shirtless and carrying big machine guns.”
