Those interested in learning more about implementing science, technology, engineering and math (or STEM) into the schools can attend Farmingdale State College's fourth annual STEM summit Friday.
The college's president, W. Hubert Keen, is expecting to welcome more than 700 students, industry leaders and educators to the conference, which runs from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Speakers includes Roger Tilles, New York State Board of Regents, Dr. Barbara Ross-Lee, vice president for Health Sciences and Medical Affairs at New York Institute of Technology, Doug Schmid, Western Suffolk BOCES program coordinator, and Yvonne Harrison of New York Institute of Technology’s Career Services.

Best practices and research exhibits in STEM will be featured by public school students in grades 8-12, as well as presentations and exhibits on sustainable energy technologies and biotechnologies by national, regional, and local businesses.
Breakout sessions include Student STEM Talk, Nutrition and Health, STEM Search: STEM is Cool, and STEM/STEAM Education and Careers in Action.

The summit aims to help Long Island communities connect, collaborate, and ultimately compete through the lens of STEM education. Organizers say the conference strives to bring together leaders from business, education, government and non-profit organizations to understand recent developments, learn from others at the state and national level, and engage in shaping solutions relevant to our region.
