Vogel Named Dean of Farmingdale’s Business School

Before his position in the School of Business, Dr. Vogel was chair of the Department of History, Economics and Politics. His specialties within the field of Economics are: the economics of natural disasters; regional economic growth; and economics education.

A resident of Huntington Station, Dr. Vogel has a PhD in Economics from Florida International University; a Master’s from Georgia State University, and a Bachelor’s from Florida Atlantic University, all in Economics. He came to Farmingdale as an Assistant Professor in Economics, in 1998, and was named an Associate Professor in 2002 and a full Professor in 2006. 

He is the current Treasurer of the Academy of Economics and Finance, an academic association of about 350 faculty members. He is the Past President of the New York State Economics Association.

This past year, Dr. Vogel was the recipient of the AEF Service Fellow award, and he is slated to receive the AEF Teaching Fellow award in February, 2014. 

For many years, Dr. Vogel has coordinated the New York State Legislative Internship program which provides Farmingdale students the opportunity to intern for a semester in Albany in either the Senate or Assembly program.  Since 2007, Farmingdale has sent nearly 35 students to Albany in this program.

In the spring of 2007, Dr. Vogel received a Fulbright Scholarship to teach economics in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. He has since collaborated with colleagues there on numerous papers and books, including an English-Mongolian Dictionary of Accounting Terms, (2nd Edition).

He has also been the co-Principal Investigator of a National Science Foundation grant for studying the mathematical needs of the economics community. He has published about 60 academic papers, including at least 24 refereed articles and one book chapter. He has also presented at numerous conferences.

As Dean of Farmingdale’s School of Business, Vogel is responsible for aligning the activities of the School’s departments with President Keen’s goals for the college. He has also been in place to guide construction of the Business School’s new $26.7 million building from the start of construction in 2012 through the opening of the new facility in 2014.
