Buddy Gets His Due

High School Sports Notebook: Stephen Boyd, Buddy Krumenacker and Rick Punzone named coaches of the year.

Football season ended with a thud – the thud of a last-second field goal block to seal Chaminade’s first Catholic league championship since 1998.

The Flyers also exorcised a decade-long team losing streak by beating St. Anthony’s, 17-16, to claim the CHSFL Class AAA crown Dec. 1. Now the accolades keep coming as Chaminade’s Stephen Boyd was one of three coaches named to Newsday’s All-Long Island football team.

Boyd, a former Nassau player of the year from Valley Stream and NFL All-Pro linebacker, lifted the Flyers to a 10-1 season.
