With first place at stake, tensions were high at the boys basketball game between and Uniondale Friday night and Nassau County Police had to respond to an incident there.
According to police, the game had to be stopped because of a "disturbance" and the entire crowd of around 100 people was evacuated from the gym at around 5 p.m. A police spokesperson said that no one was injured but no other information about the disturbance was available.
After the incident, Uniondate won 54-44.
"It was an intense game as is, first place on the line," Farmingdale coach Jim Pastier told Newsday. "We're battling for a share of conference title, they were looking to stay undefeated. It was a tough battle. Two of the top teams on Long Island going at it."
Tom Diana, the Uniondale head coach, said that the student-athletes handled themselves well and were not involved in the disturbance.
