Dalers No. 1 on Long Island

Girls Lacrosse team heads to Cortland for state championships next weekend.

The Farmingdale girls lacrosse team is the champion of Long Island and heads  upstate this weekend to contend for the state championship.

Senior Nadine Hadnagy scored four goals as the Dalers held off Bay Shore, 12-11, Sunday at Adelphi University to win the Long Island Class A championship.

It was the team's first Long Island title since 2010.

Against the same opponent in the title game last year, Farmingdale gave up a four-goal lead and lost a hearbreaker in overtime.

Tara Wahl and Emily Marlow scored two goals each Sunday. Bridget and Brenna Weill each scored a goal. Olivia Kirk made 10 saves.

"Bringing the championship back to the Dale is a fantastic feeling," Farmingdale Coach Shari Campbell told Newsday. "Coming into this game as an underdog, I think, helped us in a way. It took some of the pressure off."

Farmingdale (14-3) will face Penfield in Friday's state semifinals at SUNY-Cortland. If they win, the Dalers play for the state championship on Saturday at Cortland.
